A term they can swim 10 metres in deep water confidently. I use a range of teaching techniques and drills to help improve their stroke technique, focusing on body position, arm and leg movements, and breathing. I also incorporate fun activities and games to keep the lessons engaging and enjoyable for the children.
Water safety is a top priority in my lessons. Children learn important skills such as how to keep safe in the water, how to seek help if needed, and ways to attract attention if they find themselves in a difficult situation. They also have the opportunity to earn Water Safety awards 1-3, which recognise their knowledge and understanding of water safety practises.
I offer both intensive and term-time swimming lessons to cater to different schedules. Intensive swimming courses and the BSAC Snorkelling Course are available during the school holidays. Lessons are 30 minutes long, allowing for focused instruction and practise.

Carina, the swimming instructor, is passionate about teaching children to swim in a safe, warm, and friendly environment. With over 20 years of experience and accreditation as a Swim England Coach, she is knowledgeable and skilled in teaching the Swim England Learn to Swim programme and Water Skills Awards. Carina's goal is to improve water confidence and technique in each child through fun and challenging lessons.
It all started when Carina purchased a house with an indoor pool in Naphill outside High Wycombe. As a concerned mother, she wanted to ensure her child's water safety and decided to teach her to swim. This led to offering lessons to local children, which quickly grew in popularity. Carina has obtained various qualifications, such as Lifeguard training, Aqua Aerobics, Rookie lifeguard, British Sub Aqua club, PADI diver, and continues to update her skills through regular professional development courses.
At Blue Fish Swim School, children progress from doggy-paddle to mastering the four main strokes – crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly – with a focus on excellent technique. Small groups with a maximum of six children allow for effective learning and quick progression. The last lesson of each term is a skills and fun session, where children with their 10-metre badge or more get to use fins and practise advanced techniques. Non-swimmers use noddles, pick up sinkers from the steps, and gain water confidence through various activities.
Carina aims to create a relaxed and happy environment for each child, ensuring they feel comfortable in the water. Through her effective teaching methods and engaging lessons, children are able to develop their swimming abilities quickly and confidently. Water safety is integrated into the lessons, and children have the opportunity to earn Water Safety awards 1-3, showcasing their understanding of important safety practises.
With a flexible schedule that includes term-time lessons and holiday courses, Blue Fish Swim School provides options to suit different needs.
