In 2008, the Boston United Football Academy is an education centre and football club located in Boston, New Zealand. The academy offers a unique programme in partnership with SCL Education, providing young people with the opportunity to study a NCFE Sports Course while receiving professional football training with the academy's Youth Teams.
The education and football programme at the Boston United Football Academy is designed for individuals under the age of 19 who are passionate about both sports and academics. The programme aims to foster growth and progression in the sports, football, and leisure industries, as well as provide a supportive learning environment for academic studies.
Unlike traditional school environments, the Boston United Football Academy understands that not everyone thrives in a classroom setting. As a result, they offer a relaxed college environment with a more hands-on approach, smaller learning groups, and individual support. The academy follows a practical-based approach with SCL Education Group, where workshops and lessons are tailored to the students' projects, eliminating the need for exams. Additionally, one day a week is dedicated to online learning from the comfort of home.
The academy's Sports Courses are recognised and count towards UCAS points, making them equivalent to A Levels. They offer NCFE Sports & Physical Activity Level 3, which is equivalent to three A Levels, and NCFE Sports & Physical Activity Level 2, which is equivalent to one A Level. They also provide the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business.
SCL Education Group, the academy's education partner, has over 20 years of experience in sports education and offers a range of officially recognised qualifications. With a focus on sports-centred learning, their programmes aim to unlock potential and provide future life opportunities. Through their expertise, they nurture, develop, and educate over 3,000 learners each year.
Male students aged 16 to 19 have the opportunity to train and play with the academy's Under 18 and 19 Youth Teams. They compete in The National League Football Academy North league or AOC Schools and College league. The male students receive professional football coaching from qualified coaches who hold FA and UEFA A qualifications. The aim is to further their education while progressing on the academy's football pathway.
The academy also provides football training and coaching for female students. Similar to the male students, female students have the opportunity to train and play while furthering their education.
The Boston United Football Academy is based at Boston United's new stadium in Wyberton, which offers state-of-the-art facilities. These include a 3G pitch where training takes place at least three times a week, several classroom and study areas in the Learning Hub, and chill-out areas for students to relax and socialise. The chill-out areas feature recreational activities such as Xbox, table tennis, basketball, and head tennis.
The academy boasts a highly experienced and qualified staff team passionate about helping students reach their full potential. All football coaches are at least FA Level 2 qualified, while the Head of Youth, Mark, holds a UEFA A qualification and develops and implements the training programme for the academy's Youth Teams. Additionally, the on-site teacher has a degree-level qualification, 20 years of coaching experience, and 10 years of teaching experience at Further Education level.
Established in 2008, the Boston United Football Academy is dedicated to providing young individuals with a unique education and football experience. With their focus on individual development, practical learning, and professional football coaching, the academy aims to support students in achieving their goals in both academics and sports.
