SkyeDance, a local Contemporary Dance club in Portree, is excited to promote their upcoming Boys Only Group class. The club aims to encourage boys to participate in dance and connect with other boys from different schools on the Isle of Skye.
This unique class was established in August 2018 and started with just seven boys in Portree. However, it has quickly gained popularity and now boasts a thriving community of fifteen participants. One of the boys even travels by ferry from the Isle of Raasay to join his newfound friends, highlighting the strong bonds formed through this class.
The Boys Only Group class provides a supportive and non-judgemental environment where young males can explore the art of dance and expand their movement vocabulary. By learning various dancing skills and styles, these boys not only build their confidence but also have the opportunity to showcase their talent at the annual Summer Showcase and Christmas Show.
SkyeDance is committed to breaking the stigma surrounding male dancers and promoting their overall health and well-being. Looking ahead, the club has exciting plans to have the Boys Only Group perform at other events around the island and even beyond.
In 2020, SkyeDance organised their first-ever Boys Only Dance Camp during the October holidays, which turned out to be a huge success. It further solidified the club's dedication to providing enjoyable and enriching dance experiences for boys aged between 6-12.
