Moreton Bay Region is excited to announce that we have been awarded tenders for the construction of a new BMX racetrack and a Football Centre of Excellence at Brendale. With a total worth of $23.6 million, these projects are a vital part of our preparations for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The BMX racetrack, located at Nolan Park, is set to become an international competition standard facility. This means that it will not only provide a thrilling experience for the local BMX enthusiasts, but it will also serve as a platform for the development of future Australian gold medallists in the discipline. We are truly excited about the potential that this facility holds.
Moving on to the Football Centre of Excellence, this $22 million project will be situated at the South Pine Sports Complex. It will serve as the home ground for Brisbane Roar's junior academy and women's team. This state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to be completed in January 2022, just in time for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, which we are proud to co-host with Australia. The aim behind this project is to establish the best possible facilities for our youth athletes in Moreton Bay Region, allowing them to dream big and aspire to represent our country in the future.
It is important to note that these projects have received funding support from both the State and Federal Governments. This demonstrates their strong commitment to our community and their belief in the positive impact that such world-class sporting facilities can have on our region.
Construction on the Football Centre of Excellence will commence in January 2022, while the BMX racetrack is expected to be completed by June 2022, weather permitting. We are eagerly looking forward to witnessing the transformation of these sites into world-class sporting arenas.
Make sure to mark your calendars and stay tuned for updates on the progress of these exciting projects. Moreton Bay Region is dedicated to providing the best sporting opportunities for our community, and we can't wait to see the positive impact that these facilities will have on our local athletes. Exciting times lie ahead!
