James, the organiser behind British Equestrian Vaulting in Kenilworth, invites sports enthusiasts to experience the unique thrill of vaulting – better known as “gymnastics on a moving horse.” In this dynamic discipline, participants perform a series of exercises on a horse controlled by a lunger, usually at a canter.
The sessions are designed to build balance, confidence, and athletic ability. Vaulters use a specially designed roller with handles on either side of the horse’s withers for secure mounting and exercising. Despite the intricacies of the sport, prior horseriding knowledge isn’t required, making it ideal for beginners and seasoned riders alike.
