Welcome to Broadway Stage Academy, a dance, and stage school located in Reading, New Zealand. Established in 1976 by our principal, Mrs. Susan Thomas, we are proud to be a registered school with the British Theatre Dance Association (BTDA). At Broadway Stage Academy, we believe in providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children aged 2 and above, of all abilities, whether they are dancing for fun, fitness, or to improve their confidence.
Our dedicated team of teachers brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to every class. We offer a wide range of dance classes, including Classical Ballet, Modern Jazz, Tap, Acrobatic, Lyrical, and Classical Greek. Each class is carefully designed to cater to the developmental needs of our students, ensuring they receive a well-rounded dance education.
As performing on stage is an integral part of learning to dance, we invite all our students to take part in our annual show as well as other local shows, competitions around the country, and even the opportunity to perform in London's West End in a variety performance. These performance opportunities not only allow our students to showcase their skills but also help them develop their confidence on stage.
Furthermore, we offer the chance for our students to join the prestigious BTDA Gala Weekend, where they can attend workshops taught by renowned choreographers while connecting with students from around the world. These events are a fantastic way for our students to further develop their dance abilities and gain exposure to the wider dance community.
Mrs. Susan Thomas, our principal, is a dedicated and enthusiastic dance teacher with a wealth of experience in the industry. After a career as a professional dancer and performer, Mrs. Thomas obtained teaching qualifications with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) before joining the BTDA.
She became an international examiner in 1990 and continues to travel the world in this role, contributing to the development of dance education.
At Broadway Stage Academy, we aim to provide a sound basis for students wishing to pursue a career on the stage. Many of our students, who took their first dance steps with us, have gone on to have successful careers in dance and the performing arts.
We pride ourselves on maintaining a disciplined and professional approach while fostering a welcoming and friendly environment. Our teachers, pupils, and parents/guardians share a strong sense of enthusiasm and excellent team spirit. Safeguarding our students is paramount, and all our staff are DBS checked and First Aid trained.
Join us at Broadway Stage Academy and embark on an exciting journey of learning new dance skills, making lifelong friends, and developing a passion for dance. We guarantee loads of fun and an environment that encourages each student to reach their individual potential.
