Brooklyn Arena

Windsor, Brooklyn was the location of community skates, hockey games, figure skating competitions, and various events. It was a vital hub for residents of all ages to come together and enjoy the love of ice sports. With the loss of the Brooklyn Arena, there was a significant gap in the community for a place to gather and participate in ice-related activities.

The birth of the GFL Centre, named after a local sponsor, came from the determination and hard work of the Board of Directors and community members. Through fundraising efforts, grants, and insurance compensation, the vision of a new and improved facility began to take shape. The decision to have NHL size ice was strategic, as it allowed for a wider range of uses and attracted more sports teams and events to the area.

The GFL Centre officially opened its doors in September 2017, showcasing a state-of-the-art facility with a spacious ice surface, modern dressing rooms, comfortable seating for spectators, and a fully equipped canteen. The boardroom rental option added another dimension to the Centre, allowing for meetings and events to be held in a convenient and welcoming space.

Today, the GFL Centre continues to be a vital part of the Newport community, providing a place for sports teams, families, and individuals to come together and enjoy the thrill of ice sports.
