In 1996, the Ayr Senior Soccer Association merged with the Junior Soccer Association to form Burdekin FC, with the goal of providing a unified and inclusive soccer club for the entire Burdekin community. Since then, Burdekin FC has grown to become the leading soccer club in the region, with a strong and proud history.
The soccer field at Honeycombes Sporting Complex is the home ground for Burdekin FC's junior teams. Every Saturday morning, boys, and girls aged 5-12 come together to participate in non-competitive fixtures. This provides a great opportunity for young players to learn the game, develop their skills, and have fun in a supportive and friendly environment. Burdekin FC also actively participates in club carnivals, giving junior players the chance to showcase their talents and compete against other teams in the region.
For senior players, International Park is the place to be. Burdekin FC's senior teams range from youth to masters, ensuring that there is a place for everyone to play and enjoy the game. The senior teams compete in the FQ Northern Football Competition in Townsville, showcasing their skills and representing Burdekin FC with pride. The women's teams play their matches on Friday nights, both in Townsville and at home.
The Funkies, a veteran's team, also join the women in their matches. The men's teams take the field on late Saturday afternoons, providing an exciting and competitive atmosphere for players and spectators alike. The Masters social competition, known for its fun and camaraderie, takes place on Monday nights at International Park.
One of the highlights of Burdekin FC's calendar is the Delta Cleaners Night Soccer Competition, which will be celebrating its 45th year in 2023. This small-sided social competition is open to men and women aged 16 and above, and provides a great opportunity for players of all skill levels to come together, have fun, and enjoy the game under floodlights.
