Bill, the organizer, wants to share some exciting insights about the Calgary Hornets RFC with the sports community. Based in Calgary, the club has been a cornerstone of local rugby since 1960, offering both competitive and social rugby programs to the community. Over the past 60 years, they have grown to include three senior men’s teams, two senior women’s teams, and ten junior teams. The club now has over 1000 members, which encompasses players, parents, alumni, and supporters.
The Hornets are especially proud of their youth development program, known for producing successful athletes armed with crucial life skills. Among their many achievements, the Men’s Division 1 team has won the Provincial Championship in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013, and topped the 2016 Alberta Cup Regular Season. The Women’s Division has also made its mark by claiming the Provincial Championship titles in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2016.
Success at the junior level is equally impressive, with the U15 girls, U15 boys, U17 girls, U17 boys, and U18 girls all achieving championships in city and provincial competitions in recent years.
Bill emphasizes that Calgary Hornets RFC’s mission is to promote rugby in Calgary and Alberta, nurturing players with aspirations at the national and regional levels. The club remains committed to player development and encourages members to engage with the broader Calgary community through the sport. With its rich history and dedication to excellence, the Calgary Hornets RFC stands as a prominent rugby club in the region.
