About

Know what Callisthenics NSW is all about? Callisthenics NSW is a sports club located in Gerringong, Australia, that focuses on the artistic sport of callisthenics. Callisthenics is performed on stage, either in teams or as a soloist, and combines elements of dancing, singing, gymnastics, and technical skill.

The club aims to guide participants in developing strength, techniques, flexibility, and coordination through the guidance of qualified coaches. Callisthenics not only focuses on physical skills but also teaches important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and confidence that can be carried throughout the performers' lives.

In a typical year, a team at Callisthenics NSW will perform core items such as Figure March, which involves marching in formations to develop spacial awareness, rhythm, and deportment. The Free Exercises item includes a mixture of flexibility and strength movements to develop core strength and deportment. Manipulating lightweight metal rods and swinging wooden clubs are also part of the routine to develop hand-eye coordination, multitasking skills, and fine-motor skills.

Additionally, teams will perform 2-3 of the following 'fancy' items: Aesthetic, Rhythmic, Character Dance, Song with Action, Song and Dance, Dance Arrangement, and Calisthenic Revue. These items focus on graceful movements, dance technique, musical appreciation, emotional expression, lower body strength, power, poise, storytelling through dance, singing skills, dance, coordination, musical interpretation, and creative expression.

While primarily a team sport, Callisthenics NSW also allows performers to participate in solos or duos. Solos and duos require flexibility, grace, poise, deportment, and confidence in performance. Participants can choose to perform in items such as Graceful Girl, Calisthenic Solo, and Duos, which emphasise techniques adapted from classical ballet, flexibility, strength, dance steps, and collaboration with a partner.

All coaching at Callisthenics NSW is provided by qualified coaches who have undergone regular testing. These coaches hold Level 1 Coach Badges, have Working With Children's Checks, and possess First Aid training to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.

Whether you're looking to develop your physical abilities, build life skills, or simply enjoy the artistic aspects of callisthenics, Callisthenics NSW is the place for you.
