Callis Waudby School For Dancing is a renowned dance school located in Brough, New Zealand. Founded by Raymond and Joyce Waudby in October 1969, the school has been dedicated to providing quality dance training to both adults and children for over 50 years.
Raymond and Joyce Waudby, who were former amateur and professional dance competitors, bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the school. They are passionate about sharing their love for dance with their students and have had considerable success in competitions throughout their career.
At Callis Waudby, they offer a wide range of dance classes catering to different levels and abilities. On Tuesday evenings, they have adult couples' classes from 6. 45pm until 7. 45pm, perfect for those looking to learn early, easy, and popular sequence dances.
Beginners are also welcome to join the class and learn easy ballroom and Latin American dances. The class fee is only $5 per person per night.
Following the earlier class, there is another session from 8. 00pm to 10. 00pm for adult couples who are interested in popular sequence dancing. The class takes place in a friendly atmosphere at the Brantingham Village Hall near Brough.
Alongside free dancing, there is also occasional tuition provided by Joyce and Raymond for ballroom, Latin American, and sequence dances. The class fee remains at $5 per person per night.
Aside from regular dance classes, Callis Waudby School For Dancing boasts some exemplary achievements outside the studio. In the early to mid-1990s, Raymond and Joyce introduced American Country Line Dancing into the school, leading to an exciting collaboration with Professor Purdie, a Consultant for metabolic bone diseases at the Hull Royal Infirmary. Together, they discovered that specific line dances, coupled with body exercise movements, helped increase bone density in patients suffering from osteoporosis. Callis Waudby School For Dancing continues to offer these line dance classes for osteoporosis patients, contributing significant funds to the local branch of the Osteoporosis Society.
Over the years, Raymond and Joyce have also performed cabaret and demonstration shows, showcasing their expertise and entertaining audiences. However, their true passion lies in teaching beginners, guiding them through the fundamentals of dance and nurturing their potential.
Callis Waudby School For Dancing welcomes clients from various locations, including South Cave, North Cave, Hotham, Everthorpe, Drewton, South Newbald, North Newbald, and many more East Yorkshire villages. They also have an online presence on social media platforms such as Facebook and Mastodon, allowing students to stay connected and receive updates on classes and events.
