Cape Egmont Boat Club, located on Bayly Road in Warea, is a vibrant and active fishing club that prides itself on being the most fun on the coast. With a strong focus on safe boating and happy fishing, the club offers a range of activities and events for members to enjoy.
The club was founded back in 1961 when three local men were surfcasting off a rock in Greenways Bay and realised the need for a boat club to improve the Bayly Road boat race. A meeting was held shortly after, and the club officially began with numerous people joining as members. Subscription fees were set at one pound each, which helped the club finance the purchase of a tractor for boat launching purposes. Over time, the club continued to grow, and in 1974, a clubhouse was built using timber from an old house donated to the club.
Cape Egmont Boat Club is affiliated with several organisations, including Cape Egmont Sea Rescue Trust, Cape Egmont Lighthouse Trust, and New Zealand Sport Fishing Council. The club values keeping its information current and aims to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for members to enjoy fishing and boating.
The club's dedicated committee members, led by Commodore Michael Lawn, work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the smooth operation of the club. Michael, a true coast enthusiast, comes from a family of keen fishermen and can often be found out on the water. Liz McCreedy serves as the treasurer, bringing her financial expertise to the club, while Sam Goodin serves as the secretary, overseeing the administrative tasks.
Cape Egmont Boat Club offers excellent facilities and hosts a variety of events and social gatherings throughout the year. Members can enjoy Friday night dinners or social drinks as they bask in the beautiful sunset. The club has a strong sense of community and is known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you are an avid angler or simply enjoy the coastal lifestyle, Cape Egmont Boat Club offers a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and enjoy the best that the coast has to offer. With its stunning location, active events calendar, and friendly members, the club truly is the most fun on the coast.
