Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that focuses on defensive techniques and peaceful redirection of an opponent's momentum. Cardiff Sho-Bu-Kan Aikido Dojo is a friendly and inclusive martial arts school located in Cardiff, Wales.

Cardiff Sho-Bu-Kan is a member of the British Aikido Federation and the International Aikido Federation. All grades earned at the dojo are recognised by the Aikikai Foundation Hombu Dojo, the headquarters of Aikido in Japan. Additionally, the dojo hosts black belt examinations performed by a representative of the Hombu Dojo every summer.
The dojo offers classes at multiple locations in Cardiff. On Mondays, the class is held at Sully Budokan Judo Club in Sully, Vale of Glamorgan. On Tuesdays, the class takes place at Cyncoed Methodist Church in Cardiff. And on Thursdays, the dojo can be found at Chapter Arts Centre in Canton.
The class timings are 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm on Mondays and 8:00 pm – 9:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
To make it easier for newcomers to try out Aikido, the first class at Cardiff Sho-Bu-Kan is only 5 and includes temporary insurance coverage. This allows you to experience the art form and gauge whether it suits you before committing further.
The dojo is led by Peter Gillard Sensei, also known as Shihan, a 6th dan Aikikai Foundation instructor. He has been practising Aikido since 1966 and has strong connexions with senior Japanese Aikido instructors. Other highly skilled instructors at Cardiff Sho-Bu-Kan include Allan Hagan (Shidoin, 6th Dan Aikikai Foundation), Guy Needler (6th Dan Aikikai Foundation), Russell Milton (Shidoin, 5th Dan Aikikai Foundation), and Ron Watts (4th Dan).
