Cardwell Theatre School

Cardwell Theatre School is Altrincham's top dance school, providing a happy and nurturing environment for children to explore their creativity and develop a passion for dance. They offer classes for boys and girls, starting from the age of 2 all the way up to adult students. The school caters to dancers of all levels, from beginners to advanced, and even offers vocational training.

One of the highlights of Cardwell Theatre School is their excellent track record in IDTA and RAD examinations. Many of their students have achieved outstanding results in these exams. Additionally, the school provides opportunities for students to showcase their talents in pantomimes and professional shows. For example, seven of their students will be performing as the Von Trapp Children in the upcoming production of “The Sound of Music” at the Altrincham Garrick Theatre.

They have also been involved in the Christmas Pantomime “Dick Whittington” at the same venue.

Former students of Cardwell Theatre School have gone on to achieve great success in the dance industry. Some have performed with renowned companies such as the English National Ballet and The Royal Ballet Flanders. Others have had the opportunity to showcase their talents in West End productions, touring shows, major cruise companies, and cabaret performances across the UK.

The principal of Cardwell Theatre School is Sophie Robinson, who started her training with Lynda Cardwell at the age of 4. Sophie holds IDTA Fellowships in all subjects and a diploma in Gymnastics dance. She is a highly skilled and experienced teacher in her own right, having won the IDTA John Knight Award for Modern Jazz in 2019.

In 2014, Sophie returned to Cardwell Theatre School as a teacher and Junior Partner. In September 2020, Miss Lynda Cardwell stepped down as principal and passed on the role to Sophie. However, she remains actively involved in the school.

The school regularly updates its social media and club directories with news and events. Recent highlights include the successful Summer School 2020, where the children put on a brilliant virtual performance. They also recently celebrated the IDTA Theatre Awards nominations for some of their talented students.
