Carter School Of Dance

Carter School of Dance (CSD) is a dance school located in Hertford, New Zealand. With a rich history dating back to 1980 when it was founded by Janet Carter, the school has been a staple in the community for decades. In 2009, Caroline Crowley took over the ownership of CSD and continues to manage it today.

CSD specialises in offering comprehensive professional dance training in a variety of dance styles. The school prides itself on creating a happy and supportive atmosphere where students can enjoy dance and form lifelong friendships. Through years of experience, CSD has developed a strong reputation for nurturing talent and helping students acquire lifelong skills.

One of the highlights of CSD is the extensive range of classes available. The school follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) syllabus for Ballet and offers classes for students of all ages and levels. From Nursery ballet for our youngest dancers to Pre-Primary, Primary, and Grades 1 through 8, CSD ensures that every student receives personalised attention and instruction.

In addition to Ballet, CSD also offers Tap and Modern Theatre Dance classes that follow the syllabus of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD). These classes range from ISTD Grade 1 up to Grade 6, and students have the opportunity to take vocational exams in Modern.

The school also recognises the importance of Musical Theatre and Dramatic Art and offers classes that prepare students for examinations conducted by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). These classes focus on developing acting and singing skills, encouraging empathy and self-awareness in students.

CSD does not only cater to young dancers but also offers Adult Classes. One such class is the Contemporary Style Class with Tim Blowfield, designed for individuals over 40. This class provides a fun and enjoyable experience through short exercises, sequences, and longer dances influenced by Contemporary, Musical Theatre, and Ballet.

Furthermore, CSD offers a unique class called Silver Swans Ballet, specifically designed for adults. Taught by Caroline Crowley, this class provides a graceful and nurturing environment for adults who wish to learn or reconnect with the art of ballet.

CSD takes great pride in the achievements of its students and encourages development and progression through examinations. The school conducts examinations each term in the syllabi of RAD and ISTD. Exceptional young students are also encouraged to apply for associate places in leading vocational schools such as the Royal Ballet School, Central School of Ballet, Tring Park School for Performing Arts, and Rambert School for Ballet and Contemporary Dance.
