Centre Stage Theatre Academy is a dance school located in Boston, dedicated to providing an inclusive and encouraging space for students to pursue their passion for dance and performing arts. Established in 2015, CSTA prioritises building technique, musicality, and performance skills, while also focusing on student welfare and enjoyment.
At CSTA, they believe that dance and performing arts offer a wide range of benefits for both mental and physical health. Studies have shown that engaging in dance improves the condition of the heart and lungs, increases muscular strength and endurance, and enhances coordination, agility, and flexibility. Additionally, dancing and singing have been found to lift the mood, ease anxiety, and sharpen the mind.
The dance classes at CSTA cater to different age groups and skill levels, ensuring that no one is left behind. They offer a Preschool acro class for children as young as 2 years old, where they learn to stretch, tumble, and cooperate in a safe and fun environment. This class helps develop social skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidence.
Acro classes are also available for junior, intermediate, and senior age groups. Following the Acroarts syllabus, students learn safe flexibilities and progressions into tricks, which build confidence, body awareness, strength, and flexibility. Taking a ballet class alongside acrodance is required, as it helps with the execution of acro techniques.
Ballet, Tap, and Modern Jazz are core subjects at CSTA. Ballet classes are suitable for a range of ages and abilities, with options for pointe work starting from grade 5. Tap classes focus on building rhythm, coordination, and flexibility, and cater to students aged 3 and above. Modern jazz classes are fun and friendly, allowing students to learn new dance techniques each week and progress at their own pace.
Contemporary dance, which incorporates elements of ballet, modern, and jazz, is also taught at CSTA. Following the syllabus from the Associated Board of Dance, students can progress through different grades and even become associate members of ABD or pursue teaching opportunities. Taking ballet classes alongside contemporary classes is beneficial but not required.
Musical Theatre is one of the most popular classes at CSTA, where students explore acting, singing, and dancing. They work on group singing, harmonies, acting through group songs, and movement. Acting classes delve into the process of acting, focusing on character motivations and even developing and writing original characters. Students also study accents and improvisation, and have the opportunity to take LCM drama exams with a 100% distinction rate.
In addition to group singing and acting in the musical theatre class, CSTA also offers 1:1 singing lessons. These lessons are limited in availability and focus on technique, performance, and acting through song. Students have the opportunity to work towards solos, duets, and trios for competitions and shows, as well as graded exams with the London College of Music, maintaining a 100% pass rate.
At Centre Stage Theatre Academy, the love for dance and performing arts is nurtured and celebrated. With a focus on inclusivity, technique, and student well-being, CSTA provides a supportive environment for students of all ages and abilities to spread their wings and shine on Centre Stage.
