The Century Gardens Sport Court, located in the northeast corner of Century Gardens in Downtown Calgary, is a brand new addition to the city's sports amenities. Constructed as part of The City of Calgary's Downtown Strategy and 8th Street SW Revitalization project, the court features a unique circular design with three half courts specifically designed for 3×3 basketball games. This new sport amenity enhances the surrounding park and streetscape, providing opportunities for play, gathering, and physical activity.
The City of Calgary and The Calgary Surge contributed financially to the development of the Century Gardens Sport Court, showing their support for community-based sports initiatives. Situated at 826 8 St SW, the court is easily accessible for locals and visitors alike. For any inquiries regarding the project, interested individuals can reach out via email.
Adjacent to the Century Gardens Sport Court is the David Richardson Memorial Disk Golf Park, a special disk golf course built in memory of David Richardson. Managed in collaboration between the City of Calgary, ATCO, Parks Foundation Calgary, and the Calgary Disk Golf Club, the course features 18 holes and free-of-charge access for all Calgarians. Disk golf shares similarities with traditional golf, using flying disks to complete each hole with the fewest throws possible.
The Manmeet Singh Bhullar Park, located near the Rotary/Mattamy Greenway, is a tranquil space honouring the late politician and community leader. With five distinct groves of trees and five giant steel archways merging into one natural space, the park symbolizes Bhullar's legacy of bringing people and communities together.
These three unique parks in Calgary offer residents and visitors opportunities for sports, recreation, and reflection, showcasing the city's commitment to creating vibrant and inclusive public spaces for all to enjoy.
