Chalfont Park Canoe Club, also known as the Chalfont Park Canoe Club, is a well-established sports club located near Henley-on-Thames in Buckinghamshire, New Zealand. Founded in 1952 by members of another canoe club, our club has a rich history and a strong reputation in the canoeing community.
With approximately forty members, the club is known for its friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Our members come from all over southern England, including Greater London, Henley, and Reading. The club's main focus is recreational white water canoeing, but there is also a strong interest in slalom, marathon, and long-distance racing. Notably, the club has produced two Olympic C1 paddlers and the first British Slalom World Champion.
The club meets every Sunday morning throughout the year, starting at around 10. 30. Additionally, during the summer months, there is a Wednesday evening session starting at 18. 00.
Please note that the club does not provide formal coaching or training sessions. Instead, all club sessions operate on a peer group paddling basis. Prospective members are welcome to use the club's facilities before joining, and members are free to use the facilities at any time.
Hambleden Weir serves as the main location for the club's canoeing activities. It is a designated whitewater canoeing site, and the availability of paddling on the weir depends on the number of sluice gates open, which is, in turn, dependent on the river's water flow. The flow is measured in cubic metres per second, and daily flow readings are accessible to the public. The flow rate determines the number of sluices that are open for paddling.
The club has an archive of the flow history since 2008, providing valuable data for planning canoeing sessions.
In addition to regular paddling activities, the Chalfont Park Canoe Club organises various social events throughout the year, including an annual dinner. The club members have also been involved in major expeditions to destinations such as Pakistan, Chile, Costa Rica, the Grand Canyon, Austria, the French Alps, and British Columbia.
As the club celebrated its 60th year in 2012, we look forward to the next 60 years being filled with the same success and passion for canoeing. For more information, visit our website or contact us through the provided channels.
