Sifu Steve Whiteley, a highly experienced martial artist with over 40 years of training, founded the school. Born and raised in Chorley, Sifu Steve has dedicated his life to the study and practise of martial arts. The roots of Tai Chi Chuan can be traced back over four thousand years in Chinese Kung-Fu history. Originally a primitive form of combat, it has evolved over the centuries into a highly scientific and philosophical system of self-defence. The traditional Kung Fu systems we know today were developed in the Shaolin Temples around fifteen hundred years ago.
At Chorley Tai Chi, students are taught three main areas of martial arts: Traditional Kung-Fu, Self Defence, and (optional) Semi-Contact Sport Kick Boxing. However, Sifu Steve emphasises the importance of discipline, realistic self-defence methods, self-improvement (both physically and mentally), and the philosophy of better understanding the world around oneself.
Becoming a member of Chorley Tai Chi is simple and affordable. There is no initial joining fee, and all classes operate on a pay-as-you-go basis, with each session costing 5. The school does not employ direct debit payment systems or engage in street corner canvassing to attract new members.
Chorley Tai Chi offers a variety of class times to accommodate different schedules. Classes take place at Coppull Mill Enterprise Centre (Unit F16), with sessions held every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The Monday and Wednesday sessions cater to students of all grades and ages, while the Thursday session is specifically for all grades and ages as well. The Saturday classes are divided into two, with the first class for beginners up to Orange sash in all age groups, and the second class for senior grades (Green sash and up).
Private lessons with Sifu Steve are also available upon request.
