The world. It emphasises discipline, focus, and self-improvement. Christchurch Archery Club offers training and practise sessions for those interested in learning and practising Kyudo. Our experienced instructors will guide you through the journey of mastering this ancient art form.
Located at Rawhiti Domain, Shaw Avenue, New Brighton, Christchurch, the Christchurch Archery Club has been in operation since 1948. As a voluntary-run club, it is managed by elected committee members who are dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for archery enthusiasts of all skill levels.
The Club takes pride in its long history of producing talented archers who have competed at national and international tournaments. With a focus on fun and enjoyment, the club offers various disciplines including recurve, barebow, and compound archery. Beginners' courses are regularly conducted throughout the year, ensuring that anyone interested in archery can learn and participate.
During the summer shooting season, which begins on the last week of September and continues until the last weekend of April, Christchurch Archery Club hosts events every Saturday afternoon. Scoring rounds usually start at 1:00pm, unless otherwise stated in the shooting programme. This programme also includes details of club rounds, postal league shoots, and upcoming tournaments, ensuring that members have a variety of shooting opportunities.
The club promotes the benefits of archery beyond physical fitness. It highlights the positive impact on mental health, as archery helps improve mental focus, drive, and resilience. It is a mindful and stress-relieving activity that allows individuals to connect with their inner selves. Additionally, the club provides an inclusive community and offers opportunities to meet new people who share a passion for archery.
For those who have previously practised archery and are looking to return to the sport, the club offers refresher sessions to help get them back on track. These sessions are aimed at providing support in achieving sporting ambitions in a social and supportive environment.
Christchurch Archery Club also offers “Have a Go” team-building activities for work events or groups looking for a fun and collaborative experience. With a team of dedicated coaches and volunteers, participants can enjoy a two-hour archery session priced at $40 per person.
As part of their commitment to “archery for all,” the club collaborates with Aotearoa Adaptive Archery to provide sessions for individuals with disabilities and those in need. They believe that archery can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of background, age, gender, or ability.
In addition to traditional archery disciplines, the club also offers Kyudo, the way of the Bow, which is an ancient martial art form from Japan. Kyudo is not just about shooting arrows at a target; it is a way of life that focuses on personal growth and self-mastery. It is a highly respected martial art in Japan and around the world. With experienced instructors, Christchurch Archery Club provides training and practise sessions for those interested in exploring the beauty and philosophy of Kyudo.
Whether you are a beginner, a returning archer, or interested in exploring the art of Kyudo, Christchurch Archery Club welcomes you to join their community. For more information, please contact enquiries@archerychch. Co. nz.
