Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are the days when the fundamentals of Taekwondo, self-defence, fitness, and strength are taught.
For kids, these classes are about building self-confidence through discipline, respect, and fun. Kids will pick up physical skills, learn important values, and gain life skills in a safe and supportive environment.
The adults' classes cater to different skill levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. Participants will learn basic techniques, self-defence, ground fighting, sparring, patterns, and improve their fitness and strength.
If competing or perfecting patterns for grading is of interest, special Patterns (Poomsae) classes are available. These are tailored for those who want to excel in competitions or achieve higher belt ranks by perfecting their patterns.
Sparring classes, for yellow belts and above, focus on developing sparring skills, fitness, strength, and strategy. Ideal for those who aspire to compete or want to enhance their sparring abilities.
Christchurch Olympic Taekwondo is proud of its history in producing elite athletes. The club has seen members compete in events like the Olympic Games, World Championships, WT Grand Prix, World Junior Championships, Commonwealth Championships, Oceania Championships, and various WT ranked international competitions. Many Black Belt national and regional champions have also come out of the club.
The coaching staff, led by Master Alan Brian, a Kukkiwon Certified Taekwondo Master and TNZ National Coach, is highly qualified and experienced. The team is dedicated to helping students achieve their goals, whether it’s competition success, self-defence skills, improved fitness, or making new friends.
