Colaba Sailing Club

Colaba Sailing Club, established in 1936, has a rich history and a vibrant spirit dedicated to promoting sailing as both a sport and a recreational activity. Located amidst the bustling energy of Mumbai, the club partners with The Royal Bombay Yacht Club (RBYC) and the Bombay Sailing Association (BSA) to offer a full sailing program that includes races, cruising adventures, training sessions, and weekend excursions. The sailing season, from October to May, promises a variety of experiences, whether it’s racing to Mandwa and back, enjoying day cruises, or attending overnight picnics.

Boasting a fleet of Seabird and Lightning class boats, Colaba Sailing Club provides ample opportunities for both seasoned sailors and novices to embark on their maritime journey. A Seabird can comfortably accommodate four persons plus a Tindal, while a Lightning holds three plus a Tindal, with members required to be present on the boats. This ensures that each sailing adventure is both personal and community-driven, fostering a sense of camaraderie among members.

The club’s storied past is marked by resilience and ingenuity. Founded by a visionary group of sailors who transformed a Port Trust shed near Sassoon Dock into a bustling hub for boat building and sailing, the club thrived even through the trials of World War II. While the war posed challenges, including the loss of their boatshed, the club members' undying passion saw them quickly revitalize their activities post-war, securing new boats and re-establishing their sailing programs.
