Coombs Wood Sports & Social Club

Welcome new members and visitors who are interested in cricket and bowls. Our club offers top-notch facilities for both sports, including well-maintained pitches and grounds.

Coombs Wood Sports & Social Club has been a staple in the Halesowen community for over 100 years. Originally founded in 1921, our club was established as a working team for Stewarts & Lloyds steel works. Since then, we have grown into a thriving sports and social hub in the area.

In 2014, we relocated from our old site in Coombs Road to our current location on Stewarts Road. Our new facilities are modern and inviting, with breathtaking views of the surrounding area.

As a members-only club, we prioritise the needs and interests of our members. However, we also extend a warm welcome to non-members, who can easily become members for an affordable fee. Becoming a member grants year-round access to our club, where you can enjoy a warm and friendly atmosphere, a wide selection of real ales, and delicious bar snacks made from locally sourced ingredients.

In addition to cricket and bowls, our club offers a variety of activities and events. We have rooms dedicated to showing live leadingship matches from Sky and BT, ensuring that sports fans never miss a game. We also host regular live entertainment, crib nights, fundraising evenings, and a youth club that meets once a week.

Our cricket club is an accredited ECB Clubmark club, which reflects our commitment to upholding traditional cricket values. We boast a healthy playing membership, with three league teams competing on Saturdays in the Worcestershire League. Our 1st XI plays in Division 1, our 2nd XI in Division 4, and our 3rd XI in Division 10. On Sundays, we participate in the Arden Sunday league.

One of our proudest accomplishments is our vibrant youth section, which consists of approximately 75 boys and girls ranging in age from 5 to 15. Our coaching scheme focuses on developing their skills and enthusiasm for the sport. Youngsters are encouraged to attend squad training sessions and have the opportunity to represent the club at various age groups, ranging from under 8 festivals to under 15 matches.

Furthermore, we have recently established a ladies softball team, which has been gaining momentum and popularity. The team trains and plays games on a weekly basis, providing a fun and inclusive environment for female players.

We extend an open invitation to anyone who is new to the area or interested in cricket and bowls. Regardless of your skill level or background, you will be embraced by our welcoming community. We encourage all parents and family members to join and support the club in any way they can.
