Academy. Facilities CRICC Caerdydd is based at the Diamond Ground, which is the home of Cardiff Quins Rugby Football Club. The club owns its own playing fields, which have been in use since 1962. The facilities include a well-maintained rugby field, changing rooms, and social areas for players and spectators.
The club takes pride in providing a safe and welcoming environment for children and their families. Teams and Pathway CRICC Caerdydd offers rugby opportunities for children at every year-group in the WRUs Player Pathway. The first exposure to rugby is through TAG Rugby, with the introduction of more advanced aspects of the game as each season progresses. Both girls and boys play together until the end of the Under-13s season.
Thereafter, the playing journey continues either through CRICCs age-group teams until Under-16s, or via the Youth and Senior sides for the Quins. The Quins also offer opportunities for women to play senior rugby at a high competitive level. Development and Fun CRICC Caerdydd is committed to the development of its players and follows the WRUs policy of ensuring that every player in the younger age groups plays at least a half during matches. The club believes in promoting an approach to the game that is fun to play, enjoyable to coach, and entertaining to watch.
They encourage open, running rugby as a core part of the clubs ethos. History CRICC Caerdydd was officially established in 1990, providing rugby tuition and experiences for children in Cardiff and the surrounding areas through the medium of Welsh. However, the roots of the club trace back to the 1980s when it first played at Llandaff Fields and then at Glantaf Lower School. The Diamond Ground has been the home of the club since its establishment.
The club has grown in strength year-on-year and has helped to foster lifelong friendships while also providing the first rugby experiences for some notable former players. Testimonials Jamie Roberts, a former player for CRICC, Cardiff Blues, and the Welsh national team, expressed his gratitude to the club for teaching him the values and discipline of rugby at a young age. He credits the club for playing a significant role in his career. Partnership with Cardiff Quins CRICC Caerdydd provides all the mini-rugby and junior sections that play at the Diamond Ground, which is also the home of Cardiff Quins Rugby Football Club.
The Quins, originally known as Cardiff High School Old Boys, have been playing on their own grounds since 1962. Players who develop their rugby skills at CRICC have a natural progression path to club rugby through the Quins. Additionally, many players have also gained experience through local secondary schools and the regional Blues Academy. CRICC Caerdydd, with its welcoming environment and commitment to developing rugby skills, provides a valuable opportunity for children in Cardiff to learn and play rugby through the medium of Welsh.
