Cycling Club Hackney CIO is a community centre and cycling club located in Hackney, London. It is dedicated to promoting cycling and cycle sport for individuals of all levels and ages. The club offers various activities and opportunities for its members to participate in.
One of the main attractions of Cycling Club Hackney is its regular club rides, which take place every Sunday. These rides serve as a meeting point for both members and newcomers to socialise and enjoy cycling together. The club also organises and runs men's and women's road races, as well as a popular circuit race series called CC Hackney Primaveras, which takes place every spring at the Lea Valley Velopark.
Cycling Club Hackney is committed to engaging and developing riders from the entire community in the area. They have an active youth section that caters to young people aged 8 to 18, as well as sections dedicated to seniors and women. The club's goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for cyclists of all backgrounds and abilities.
The club is run by volunteers, and it is expected that all members contribute their time and effort when necessary, particularly during calendar events. This collective effort helps ensure the success and smooth operation of the club's activities.
In September 2020, Cycling Club Hackney began delivery work in collaboration with Compass Wellbeing and NHS East London Foundation Trust. The club's programmes aim to support mental health by offering adult sports club life sessions, bike rides, football, and social get-togethers. This initiative is part of the NHS Triple Aim Project agenda and serves as a model example for other positive and tailored clubs to follow.
Cycling Club Hackney officially merged with Interlinkx CiC in December 2019, becoming Cycling Club Hackney CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation). The merger allowed the club to obtain charity status and better deliver positive projects for the community. The club is registered as a charity under the number 1186757.
The William Wates Memorial Trust has been a proud funding supporter of Cycling Club Hackney since September 2019. This three-year agreement enables the club to extend and develop its community outreach initiatives. The trust is known for its fundraising event called “Le loop” (or the Wates fundraisers Tour de France! ) and shares the club's vision of providing cycling and quality sporting opportunities for the entire Hackney and East London community.
Over the years, Cycling Club Hackney has received numerous accolades, including the Hackney Sports Club of the Year in 2018 and the London Youth Games Cycling Champions in multiple years. The club has also produced individual champions, such as the 2022 National Masters Circuit Race Champion.
