Dacre Heights

Welcome to Dacre Heights, a hidden gem located at 851 Flat Road in Greater Madawaska, Ontario. This private property has been transformed into a recreational paradise, offering visitors the opportunity to ski, snowshoe, hike, bike, and run all over the hill free of charge. While admission is free, donations are welcomed and appreciated to help maintain the property.

Dacre Heights was once a commercial ski hill with 180 meters of vertical drop and rolling slopes that were a favourite among many skiers. After years of operation, the lodge burnt down in 2001, leading to the dismantling of the ski lifts. In 2017, the property was sold again, and the new owners decided to turn it into a hiking, skiing, and biking destination for the public to enjoy.

With approximately 230 acres of park-like semi-wilderness, Dacre Heights offers stunning views and a variety of trails to explore. The property is shaped like a diamond, with the former ski runs still visible and relatively open. Popular activities at Dacre Heights include birdwatching, hiking, skiing, and biking.

There are currently 7. 5 km of trails on the property, with options for all skill levels. The Firefly trail is the easiest way to ascend the hill and is suitable for cross-country skiing, hiking, and biking. For those looking for a more challenging route, Henk's trail offers a direct path to the top.

Visitors can park near the welcome sign at #851 Flat Road and are encouraged to join volunteer days to help maintain the property and keep the trails open. Donations are also welcomed to assist with taxes and facility maintenance. Financial and in-kind sponsors are appreciated and may have their logo displayed at the welcome shelter.
