Familiarize yourself with the safety and risk awareness information provided on our website. Dakota Ridge is a remote area with limited facilities and services, so it is important to be prepared for changing weather conditions and potential hazards. Make sure to dress warmly, carry extra clothing, water, and snacks, and let someone know your plans before heading out on the trails.
Dakota Ridge Ski Area in the Sunshine Coast Regional District is a winter paradise for outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. With 20 kilometres of cross country ski trails, 4 kilometres of snowshoe trails, and a sledding area, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The stunning views of the Coast Mountains, Vancouver Island, and Salish Sea make it a truly special destination.
The access to Dakota Ridge is located at the end of Field Road in Wilson Creek, with a gravel forest service road leading to the main parking lot. Winter conditions should be expected on the road, so it is recommended to use a four-wheel drive vehicle with chains or take advantage of the shuttle service offered by Alpha Adventures. Dogs are not allowed on the cross-country ski trails except for the Sechelt Main trail.
Amenities at Dakota Ridge include an onsite warming hut with a wood stove, an outhouse with an ecologically sound holding tank, and volunteer trail hosts available on weekends to assist visitors. There are no garbage facilities on site, so visitors are asked to pack out their garbage. Equipment rentals and lessons are available through local businesses, and the Dakota Ridge Nordics Ski Program offers a fun way for kids to learn cross-country ski skills.
Volunteers play a crucial role in maintaining and operating Dakota Ridge, so if you are interested in volunteering, please complete the volunteer application form or contact the team for more information. Before visiting Dakota Ridge, make sure to cheque the current trail conditions and be aware of the safety information provided to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience on the trails.
