Join FEAD Lower School for dance classes designed for children between walking age and approximately 7 years old. FEAD Lower School provides a nurturing environment where young children can develop a love for dance that grows into a passion as they get older. The Dinky Dancer class, suitable for children around 18 months old or when they are walking confidently, is a fun and friendly class where children can spend special time with their grown-ups. They will not only develop a love for dance and music but also work on basic physical skills such as balance, strength, spatial awareness, fine motor skills, and listening skills. Miss Toni, an experienced teacher with 20 years of experience, has a special talent for nurturing young children and guiding them on their dance journey.
As children turn three years old, they can join the preschool class where they will gain some independence and continue to flourish. This class focuses on imagination, fun, musical appreciation, and the basics of dance, but with more structure and age-appropriate expectations. Our supportive staff is always there to help our young pupils emotionally as they transition to this independent class.
Once children reach four years old, they can move onto the pre-primary class, where they will be introduced to tap and modern dance for the first time. These genres not only provide great fun but also help develop rhythm, style, and knowledge. The moment when young dancers receive their first pair of tap shoes is always an exciting milestone!
Around the ages of five and six, children progress into the primary class, where they can start taking exams. At FEAD Lower School, we follow the structured syllabus offered by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) in all genres, and our teachers are experts in delivering this in a fun and creative way. Exams are a brilliant way for children to feel accomplished and proud, and they serve as an exciting time for growth and progress.
In addition to dance training, FEAD Lower School also offers optional extras such as Acrobatic Arts and Musical Theatre classes. These complement the dance training and provide additional opportunities for our students to explore their interests.
Not only do we offer dance classes, but FEAD Lower School also organises various community events that children and their families can participate in as part of Team FEAD. Our summer picnic on the Westwood is always a lovely gathering where both young and old students play sports together, and the grown-ups have a chance to relax and chat. Our summer school, open to all school-aged pupils, is filled with fabulous fun activities that allow children to build strong friendships. The bi-annual whole school show is a true spectacle in which even pre-school age children can participate. It is a wonderful event for the entire family to enjoy.
For students aged five and above, we invite them to join us at the 'Can You Dance?' conventions, where they can take part in masterclasses with industry professionals in various different styles. These conventions help boost confidence and inspire our pupils. We also hold open classes for the entire school approximately every term, giving families the opportunity to watch a typical lesson and see how their child is progressing and enjoying their training. Additionally, we organise special Mother's and Father's Day classes for pre-school up to grade 1, where parents can join in class with their child and create memorable dance experiences together. These classes are lots of fun!
