Dance Lab

Dance Lab, located in Somerville, is a dance school that aims to ignite the passion and dreams of every dancer. With a focus on providing opportunities for dancers to explore their skills and talents, Dance Lab is the perfect place for dancers of all ages to develop their technique, confidence, and expertise.

At Dance Lab, students have the chance to learn a variety of dance styles under the guidance of fully qualified professional instructors. The school offers classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip Hop, Contemporary, Acrobatics, Pilates/Stretch, and Pre School Dance. Students will not only develop their dance skills but also gain confidence and maximise their enjoyment of dance.

Enrolment at Dance Lab is required on an annual basis, and a registration fee provides access to the Parents Portal. Through the portal, parents can book additional classes, find information on upcoming events, and more. New students who are interested in trying out a dance class can easily fill out a try-out form online.

Dance Lab takes pride in the achievements of its teachers and students. Annually, school-aged students are invited to participate in examinations in Cecchetti Classical ballet, Tap, and Jazz under the Southern Federation of Dance syllabus. Additionally, the school offers private lessons for competition level students and exam extension students. Many Dance Lab alumni have gone on to succeed in the professional dance industry, being accepted into full-time programmes at reputable institutions such as Patrick's School of the Arts, Ministry of Dance, Victorian College of the Arts, Australian Ballet School, and Queensland Ballet School.

The DanceStep programme is also implemented at Dance Lab. This programme allows students to complete theory lessons online and assist in practical lessons once a week. It provides valuable hands-on experience to consolidate their theoretical learning.

Dance Lab offers a range of classes to cater to different interests and styles. The Cecchetti Classical Ballet is the primary training technique used at the school. The Jazz programme is a dynamic mix of cabaret, musicals, film, video clips, and ballet. Hip-hop classes are available for those who enjoy dancing to hip-hop music and want to immerse themselves in street/pop culture.

Tap classes, featuring the cool and innovative style of 'street tap', are also offered. Contemporary dance, known for pushing the boundaries of dance, focuses on technique, alignment, coordination, flexibility, and strength. Acrobatics classes allow students to showcase extraordinary feats of balance, agility, tricks, and motor coordination.
