New Zealand to offer the Progressing Ballet Technique programme. The academy caters to students of all ages and abilities, providing a nurturing and inclusive environment where every individual is encouraged to participate and enjoy dance.
Located in the northern suburbs of Wellington, DancePointe Academy is easily accessible for students from Khandallah, Johnsonville, Newlands, Churton Park, and even those from Karori, Ngaio, Wadestown, and Aro Valley. The academy has a diverse range of classes, including ballet, tap, jazz, and the scholars programme, which incorporates Progressing Ballet Technique for children aged 7 and above.
The scholars programme offers students the opportunity to dance competitively without the need for expensive private lessons, allowing more children to experience the joy of performing beyond the annual concert. In addition, the academy also prepares vocational dancers for full-time study, opening the doors to a professional career in dance.
The founding patrons of DancePointe Academy are Sir Jon Trimmer and his wife Lady Jacqui Trimmer, esteemed figures in the ballet world with a rich history of dancing with The Royal New Zealand Ballet, Australian Ballet, and Danish Ballet Companies. Lady Trimmer also served as the Ballet Mistress for the Royal New Zealand Ballet. Their invaluable guidance and input have shaped the academy into what it is today.
Sharon Vanesse, the Principal of DancePointe Academy, is a former dancer of the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Staatstheater am Gartnerplatz in Munich. With a passion for dance that has fueled her since the age of 3. 5, Sharon brings a vision of freedom and elation to the academy, aiming to inspire the same love and joy of dance in every child.
Zoe Gilmore, another talented teacher at DancePointe Academy, holds a Level 5 Diploma in Dance & Theatre Arts and has undergone full-time training at NZ Performing Arts Auckland. She is well-versed in RAD Ballet, NZMD Jazz, NZMD Contemporary, and ISTD Tap, providing students with a comprehensive education in various dance styles.
Classes at DancePointe Academy follow the RAD and BBO syllabi for ballet, the BBO Tap syllabus, and the NZMD Jazz curriculum. The academy also prides itself on being one of the first in New Zealand to offer the Progressing Ballet Technique programme, providing students with a well-rounded dance education.
Whether your child is a recreational dancer, looking to compete, or aiming for a vocational career in dance, DancePointe Academy offers a range of classes tailored to their needs. With experienced teachers, a nurturing environment, and a passion for dance, DancePointe Academy aims to inspire and cultivate a love and appreciation for dance in each of its students.
