Dance Quest is a unique theatrical dance competition located in Greenmount, Western Australia. It is held at the Swan Park Theatre in Midvale and takes place over the June long weekend. Dance Quest offers a wide range of genres for participants to compete in, including modern jazz, lyrical, acrobatics, tap, hip hop, contemporary, classical, tap scholarship, and classical scholarship.
The competition is open to dancers of all ages, starting from 3 years and under up to open age. There are different classifications for participants, including novice, intermediate, and open sections. The sections include solos and troupes, with troupes being split into small and large groups if enough entries are submitted.
Dance Quest provides opportunities for participants to win cash prizes and perpetual trophies. Solo winners from an open section have the chance to become the W. A State Dance Quest Champion in either the junior or senior level. The highest scores from each genre, such as modern jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, contemporary, classical, or acrobatics, become the top twenty finalists (10 junior and 10 senior).
These finalists then compete on Finals Night for the Championship title.
Dance Quest is proud to offer large cash prize awards, including the Kevin Jackson Junior Classical Scholarship Award ($300), Kevin Jackson Senior Classical Scholarship Award ($500), Junior Tap Championship ($300), Senior Tap Championship ($500), Junior Dance Quest W. A State Champion ($800), Senior Dance Quest W. A State Champion ($1000), and Paula Matilla State Champion Studio ($1000).
With 24 years of experience, Dance Quest has established a strong reputation for being a well-organised and friendly competition. Studio registration is by invitation only, and studios must register to be able to enter the competition. As the competition takes place during school time, the number of entries is limited. Participating studios have first preference to compete in the following year, but new studios may also have the opportunity to participate if there is room available.
There is a $40 studio registration fee to become a registered studio, and studio registrations close on March 3rd, 2023.
Entries for the competition open on February 26th and close on March 26th, 2023. Dance Quest uses the comps-online system for entry submissions. Participants can either submit their entries themselves or have their registered studio submit them on their behalf.
Dance Quest is proud to be sponsored by Energetiks. The competition relies on sponsorship from local businesses to provide rewards to participants. Businesses interested in sponsoring an event or advertising in the programme can fill out the provided form to get in touch with Dance Quest.
