Dance with Lucie is a renowned ballet school located in Rotherham, New Zealand. Founded by Lucie, who has a deep passion for dance, the school aims to provide friendly and welcoming classes for adults aged 55 and above. With a dedication to sharing the joy, social interaction, and health benefits of dance, Dance with Lucie has become a go-to destination for adults seeking a fulfilling and enriching dance experience.
Lucie's journey in dance began at a young age when she attended a baby dance class at the Janet Mitchell School of Dance in Rotherham. From there, she dedicated countless hours to perfecting her craft, eventually graduating from the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London. Lucie holds a Royal Ballet School Teaching Diploma, an Advanced certificate of the Royal Academy of Dance, and an Associate of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.
Lucie's experience as a dance teacher has taken her around the world, including places like Hong Kong, London, Dublin, and even remote villages in Borneo, Malaysia. She has also had an extensive 18-year career managing events at the Royal Albert Hall in London, organising high-profile events such as Royal Film topes, BBC Proms, and international music concerts. Lucie's diverse background in dance and event management has enriched her teaching style and allows her to create a unique and engaging dance experience for her students.
At Dance with Lucie, classes cater to students of all levels. Some participants may be complete beginners, while others may have some prior dance experience. Lucie takes pride in seeing her students progress and master new steps and sequences through perseverance and practise. Her classes are not only physically invigorating but also foster a sense of community and camaraderie among participants.
One of the highlights of Dance with Lucie is their Silver Swans classes. Introduced by the Royal Academy of Dance, these ballet classes are specially designed for older learners, allowing them to experience the joy of ballet in a supportive environment. The classes consist of exercises at the barre and in the centre of the room, accompanied by uplifting music. The curriculum remains consistent for a half-term, enabling students to focus on perfecting movements and learn a short dance routine.
While the classes are tailored for students aged 55 and above, individuals over 18 years old are welcome to join, as the ballet class can be adapted to suit individual needs and requirements. No prior dance experience is necessary, making it accessible to everyone.
Dance with Lucie believes that dancing is not only a physical endeavour but also a great way to keep the brain active. Remembering dance sequences and coordinating movements challenges the mind and provides a fun and engaging workout for the brain.
