Located in Werakata National Park in Lovedale, Deadmans mountain bike loop is an easy 8 km cycle through rare Hunter Valley bushland. Despite its ominous name, this trail offers a fun and active day out for the whole family.
Starting near Astills picnic area, the trail is a flat ride that is suitable for beginners and families. As you ride, you will be surrounded by ironbark, spotted gum, and flowering shrubs, creating a picturesque backdrop for your adventure. Whether you choose to travel on a mountain bike, foot, or horseback, be sure to take the time to stop and explore the surrounding bush.
Deadmans mountain bike loop is a haven for birdwatchers, as you are likely to spot rare birds nesting and feeding along the trail. Keep an eye out for speckled warblers, black-chinned honeyeaters, grey-crowned babblers, cockatoos, magpies, and kookaburras. The trail is especially vibrant in spring and autumn when it is adorned with flowers like purple happy wanderer, yellow hairpin banksia, red mountain devil, and the lovely purple thyme honey myrtle.
While exploring the trail, it is important to bring drinking water, a hat, and sunscreen. Please note that there is limited mobile reception in this park, so it is advisable to prepare accordingly.
