Thompson, a VII Dan International Instructor. Derby School of Taekwon-Do is a renowned martial arts school in Derby that specialises in teaching ITF Taekwon-Do. The school is associated with the UKTA and offers classes suitable for individuals of all ages and skill levels.
Taekwon-Do, meaning “The way of the foot and fist,” is a Korean martial art founded in 1955 by General Choi Hong Hi. It is a stand-up art that focuses on kicking and leg techniques, but also incorporates a variety of hand techniques. Taekwon-Do is a highly aerobic sport that improves strength, balance, flexibility, and overall fitness. It also instils character through the application of its five tenets: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit.
At Derby School of Taekwon-Do, the instructors are dedicated to making Taekwon-Do accessible to everyone. They have partnerships with schools, colleges, and the University of Derby, providing training opportunities for complete beginners to seasoned black belts. The school offers three adult evening classes each week, which are open to everyone regardless of experience, gender, or ability. Additionally, there are dedicated children's classes held at school venues across Derbyshire.
The adult classes take place on Tuesday evenings at the University of Derby Sports Centre, Thursday evenings at Darley Abbey Scout Hut, and Friday evenings at the University of Derby Kirtley Hall. The children's classes are held on Thursday evenings at Darley Abbey Village Hall. This schedule allows individuals to choose a class that best fits their schedule and location.
If individuals have any questions about training, seminars, competitions, gradings, or anything related to the school or Taekwon-Do in general, they are encouraged to contact Derby School of Taekwon-Do. The school welcomes inquiries and is happy to provide further information.
Derby School of Taekwon-Do follows a grading system that consists of six coloured belts: White, Yellow, Green, Blue, Red, and Black. There are also intermediate stages between each belt. The purpose of the grading system is to identify an individual's skill and cultural education in Taekwon-Do while simultaneously creating incentives and maintaining humility. The school provides grading syllabus study sheets for each belt level, which highlight the skills and techniques required for progression.
Derby School of Taekwon-Do has been a fixture in Derby since 1967. Under the leadership of Master Paul Thompson, a VII Dan International Instructor, the school continues to provide high-quality Taekwon-Do training and instruction.
