Experience the spirit of the Regency era at the Derwent Regency Festival 2024 in Hobart and New Norfolk, Van Diemen's Land. The festival, hosted by Folk Federation of Tasmania Inc, will offer a delightful blend of activities celebrating the historic period from November 29th to December 2nd.
The festival kicks off with a Georgian and Regency Evening at Narryna Heritage Museum on November 29th from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. Guests can enjoy regency costume showings, exhibitions, tours of the Narryna house, live music, dancing, and refreshments in the garden, creating a vibrant atmosphere.
Following the opening evening, a series of dance workshops featuring live period music and instruction by Dancing Master David Wanless will be held on November 30th. Participants will have the opportunity to learn or refresh their Regency dancing skills in preparation for the Grand Regency Ball at St James Church Hall later that day. The ball promises an evening filled with divine period music, led dances, and a lively atmosphere.
On December 1st, the festival continues with a Regency Garden Party at the historic Glen Derwent Heritage Retreat. Attendees can look forward to a mix of period activities, fine food, live music, dancing, and more amidst the picturesque setting of the retreat, providing the perfect backdrop for immersion in the Regency era.
Dressing in period attire is encouraged but not mandatory throughout the festival. Finally, the festival concludes with an After Party at St James Hall, featuring a vegetarian dinner, refreshments, music, and lively dancing to wrap up the festive weekend.
