The Derwent School of Irish Dancing is a sports club located in Sydney, Australia. With over 50 years of experience, the school is dedicated to sharing their love of dance with individuals of all ages. The club offers a range of classes, including Ballet and Irish dancing, catering to both recreational dancers and those with a more competitive mindset.
For Ballet enthusiasts, the school is proud to have fully qualified and registered teachers in the RAD Ballet syllabus. Classes are available for all grades, from Pre-Primary to Advanced, including Discovering Repertoire. Dancers are given the opportunity to perform in exams and concerts, allowing them to showcase their skills and progress in the art of Ballet.
The Irish dance programme at Derwent School is affiliated with CLRG (An Coimisiun Le Rinci Gaelacha) and offers classes for all levels, ranging from Beginners to Open. Dancers not only have the chance to compete in Feis (Competitions) but also partake in Ceili (team dancing), exams, concerts, and community events. The vibrant Irish dance community at Derwent School provides a nurturing environment for dancers to flourish and develop their skills.
The school is led by two esteemed teachers. Ann Derwent (Mosdell), a qualified RAD Ballet teacher and qualified Teacher (TCRG) and Adjudicator (ADCRG) with CLRG Irish Dance, has been teaching since she finished school. Her experience in various dance styles, including Ballet, Scottish, and Irish Dancing, contributes to her well-rounded expertise. Louise Hanratty (Derwent), a qualified Teacher (TCRG) of CLRG Irish Dance and a Registered Nurse, has been teaching since the age of 16.
Her diverse background in Ballet, Irish Dance, Physical Culture, and Callisthenics enhances her ability to connect and guide her students.
The Derwent School of Irish Dancing offers classes throughout the week, with multiple locations to choose from. Monday classes are held in Miranda and Hornsby, Tuesday in Mortdale and Menai, Wednesday in Hornsby, Thursday in Sutherland, Friday in Mortdale, and Saturday in Sylvania Heights. This wide range of class locations ensures convenience and accessibility for dancers residing in different areas of Sydney.
