About

Committed to martial arts and teaching as his instructor. He founded Devon Martial Arts in 2005, becoming the first Junior Kickboxing school within PUMA and the area. At the time of its founding, Master Black served as his assistant instructor for the Taekwon-Do school.

Brett Dowling, the Chief Instructor at Devon Martial Arts, has been involved in martial arts since the age of seven. He holds a fourth-degree black belt in both Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing, and is recognised as an international level instructor under the ITF (International Taekwon-Do Federation) and PUMA. Brett has had the privilege of training directly with Taekwon-Do Founder Major General Choi Hong Hi, as well as training under Kickboxing pioneer and Undefeated Middleweight World Champion, Bill Superfoot Wallace. These experiences have deeply shaped his understanding and expertise in martial arts.

Devon Martial Arts offers a range of disciplines suitable for all ages and abilities. Taekwon-Do, Kickboxing, and Little Pumas (designed for 4-7 year olds) are all taught by Mr. Brett Dowling. The school believes in the transformative power of martial arts, which not only develops physical fitness but also cultivates confidence, motor function, and a strong moral code.

Apart from teaching martial arts, Brett has been actively involved in various events and displays. He was a founding member of Master Black's semi-professional Junior Black Belt Display Team, known as 'The Dream Team'. They performed breathtaking displays throughout the UK, raising funds for charity and making guest appearances at martial arts school openings and movie leadinges. One of the highlights of Brett's martial arts journey was the opportunity to perform alongside the famous 'Shaolin Monks' at the National Martial Arts Exhibition at NEC Birmingham.

Brett's passion for martial arts is evident in his teaching approach. With years of experience, starting from a young age before the incorporation of a junior syllabus into martial arts, he understands the importance of having a patient and adaptive instructor. He believes that the journey of every martial artist is influenced by the guidance they receive.

Devon Martial Arts is proud to be a member of the Professional Unification of Martial Arts (P. U. M. A.

). It is one of the oldest martial arts schools in Devon, founded by the legendary Master Johnny Black VIII Degree in 1976. His introduction of Taekwon-Do to Devon was a pioneering step in the development of martial arts in the region.

At Devon Martial Arts, they embrace their students as part of their family and are committed to helping them achieve their goals. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced martial artist, Devon Martial Arts can support you every step of the way. Join their community and take ownership of your fitness journey.
