Dexx Family Activity Centre

Dexx Family Activity Centre is a vibrant indoor playground, skate park, and tourist attraction located in Rotherham, New Zealand. It is run by Life Skills Rotherham Ltd. A company dedicated to supporting and working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism.

At Dexx, visitors of all ages and abilities can enjoy a wide range of exciting activities. The centre features a community trampoline park, scooter park, mini-golf course, and caf. These activities not only provide physical exercise and social inclusion but also offer purposeful volunteering and work experiences.

The trampoline park at Dexx offers various sessions such as dodgeball, mother and toddler bounce sessions, and bounce fitness classes. This not only helps improve individual fitness but also fosters team skills. Additionally, individuals can try out a range of basic admin duties at the reception desk, providing them with a taste of working in an office setting. For those with an interest in cooking, the caf offers an opportunity to gain experience in the hospitality industry.

Safety is a top priority at Dexx. The park has dedicated team members marshalling the equipment to ensure customer safety. This role provides individuals with the chance to become a part of the Dexx Team.

The centre strongly encourages an active lifestyle and offers opportunities for individuals to pursue their sporting interests. Dexx can facilitate and nurture an individuals interest in sports coaching, turning it into a potential career path.

Dexx - Life Skills Centre has been operating since 2018 and meets all the objectives outlined in the 'My Front Door' aims. It is primarily a training and employment provider but also incorporates home-based life skills into everyones personal development. The centre believes in promoting a work-life balance, recognising its importance in the health and wellbeing of individuals, regardless of their abilities.

Scott, one of the centre's patrons, is a reserved individual who prefers writing over speaking due to confidence issues. However, he enjoys being active and has a deep interest in music and food. Thanks to Dexx's person-centred approach, Scott was able to work in the caf alongside George, assisting with buying ingredients, and preparing and cooking meals. This experience has not only allowed him to learn about the hospitality and catering industry but has also significantly improved his confidence.

Scott now has a paid job in the caf on Saturdays, and looks forward to waking up and coming into Dexx every week.
