Donaghadee Sailing Club, situated on the beautiful seafront of Donaghadee, offers a variety of sailing opportunities for everyone. Alan, the organiser, aims to create a safe and family-friendly environment for sailing, racing, training, diving, and social activities. With views of the iconic lighthouse and the Copeland Islands, the Clubhouse is the centre of all activities here.
Alan proudly mentions that Donaghadee Sailing Club is recognised as an RYA accredited training centre and a BSAC Diving and Snorkelling centre. The club’s training and social calendar is active throughout the year, welcoming both members and non-members. Whether you are into sailing, diving, snorkelling, or trying something new, the club welcomes everyone.
A key highlight is the Junior and Youth section for ages 8 to 16, which focuses on developing sailing skills and making new friends. Alan invites adults too, no matter their age, to join the beginners, improvers, and Adult RYA training programmes. For those who prefer a laid-back experience, social sailing is available.
Members can access various dinghies and necessary equipment for their sailing adventures. For divers and snorkellers, the dedicated BSAC Scuba Dive and Snorkelling Centre, Duck Down Divers, provides a fully equipped dive compressor and a commercial rib.
Alan also promotes Women on Water (WOW), a group for ladies and girls to enjoy sailing and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP). This group includes all abilities, from experienced sailors to beginners. SUP, a fast-growing water sport, is available, and members can join after their initial lesson with an accredited instructor.
Community and camaraderie are highly valued at Donaghadee Sailing Club. Alan ensures regular social events and gatherings, giving members plenty of chances to connect with like-minded people.
Alan invites anyone interested in sailing, diving, snorkelling, or other water sports to join the community. Personal equipment is not a requirement, as the club provides access to boats and gear. To find out more, visit the club’s website, arrange a tour of the facilities, and consider becoming a member today.
