Durham City Archers is a friendly target archery club based just outside of Durham City in England. Affiliated to Archery GB and part of Durham & Northumberland Archery Association, the club aims to create a welcoming atmosphere for archers of all ages and disciplines.
Durham City Archers is known for its success, with a mix of casual leisure shooters and competitive archers. Many of the club's archers have shot for the DNAA county team. The club strives to provide assistance to those looking to start their archery adventure and offers beginner courses for those who are new to the sport.
As a target archery club, Durham City Archers focuses on Olympic style archery, shooting at straw or foam targets ranging from 20-25 yards indoors and 30–100 yards outdoors. The club has a well-knit community, with members socialising both inside and outside of club shooting hours. A unique feature of the club is “Carole's Caf,” which is a dedicated outdoor space where members can relax, enjoy a cup of tea, and socialise during the outdoor season.
Durham City Archers' competitive archers have had great success, winning a significant number of trophies and participating in county and national competitions. The club's AGB approved coaches volunteer to teach beginner courses and provide 1-1 coaching to any member who requests it. The coaches also work at the county level, providing assistance to archers across the county on coaching days.
The club's venues are located at Framwellgate School Durham, with a state-of-the-art indoor hall for shooting and a field for outdoor shooting. The indoor venue provides excellent lighting, allowing archers to see where their arrows land, while the outdoor venue offers target distances ranging from 30 to 60 yards and even Olympic distance at 70 metres. Durham City Archers has a strong relationship with the school, ensuring availability of the hall and well-kept grass on the field.
