Sarah, the organiser at Durham University Boat Club, wants the sports community to know about the exciting things happening at the club. Durham University Boat Club (DUBC), with its rich history since 1877, is a gem in the heart of Durham and not halfway around the world in New Zealand. Sarah is keen to keep the tone light and playful while getting the point across.
DUBC is a real hotspot for top British student crews, putting up impressive shows at university, national, and international events. Sarah credits this to their top-notch coaching staff who tailor training sessions to help athletes bag seats in the GB U23 squad. These efforts have clearly paid off on both national and international stages. The club’s focus isn’t just on winning but also on fostering growth as both individuals and team players, making the university experience all the more memorable.
Sarah also wants everyone to know about the High Performance Programme at DUBC, which is supported by the GB Rowing Team and funded by the National Lottery. For many athletes, DUBC has been a stepping stone to representing Great Britain at World Championships and the Olympics.
Clean sport is a big deal at DUBC. The club strictly follows the rules set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and UK Anti-Doping (UKAD), ensuring everyone plays fair and square.
Throughout the year, you can spot their iconic Palatinate blades at high-profile events like the Head of the River, Henley Royal Regatta, Women's Henley Regatta, and BUCS. Sarah and the team are proud to represent Palatinate and show off their hard work on a national stage.
Sarah also mentions their monthly newsletter, a perfect way to stay in the loop with the club’s activities, progress, and upcoming events. Signing up is easy, just give your consent for the email collection, and if you ever want out, just contact the Alumni Officer.
DUBC is based at Maiden Castle, Durham DH1 3SE. They also have a website that uses cookies for a smoother browsing experience.
One event that Sarah is particularly excited about is the North East Indoor Rowing Championship, held annually at the Graham Sports Centre in Durham. This event draws rowers and athletes from various disciplines, including university rowers at BUCS events, and features categories for college, amateur rowers, and athletes from other sports. What's fantastic is that entry fees help support Sport in Action Zambia, a charity partner of Team Durham, with 50% of ticket prices going towards this cause.
The championship offers a range of categories and races for different ages and abilities, from Junior events to Masters events (for those 27 and above), and races from 1,000m to 2,000m. Detailed rules and information are shared as the event date approaches.
Sarah extends a warm welcome to anyone passionate about rowing and looking for a high-level challenge. With DUBC's outstanding coaching, training programmes, and commitment to clean sport, Sarah guarantees a rewarding experience for all athletes.
