Welcome to East Side Jiu Jitsu, a premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and martial arts school located in Murrumbeena, Melbourne. Here at East Side Jiu-Jitsu, we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for students of all ages and skill levels to engage with the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Developed by the Gracie family in Brazil, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is founded on the principles of technique over strength and mindfulness over aggression. In our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programme, students learn to take their opponents to the ground, control them, and force them to submit using a wide range of chokes, holds, and locks. Classes are conducted with traditional Gi uniforms and belts to display rank.
Our Kids Programme at East Side Jiu-Jitsu is designed to be fun, engaging, and accessible for all children. Through training in Jiu-Jitsu, young people learn important life lessons such as resilience, patience, perseverance, self-confidence, and anti-bullying techniques that they can carry into their daily lives.
For those interested in a more free-flowing setting, our No Gi - Submission Wrestling programme takes the traditional elements of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and applies them to combat and self-defence situations. Students will learn to control and submit their opponents without the traditional grips and holds of Jiu-Jitsu in a Gi.
At East Side Jiu Jitsu, we offer both group classes and one-on-one or small group classes with our experienced instructors, Raph and Brad. Group classes are available for both adults and kids, with adults aged 15+ and kids aged 6-14. Our BJJ classes are conducted with a Gi, while our No Gi classes are conducted with 'fight wear', wrestling, or sporting attire.
We operate under an unlimited classes model, meaning students can attend as many classes as they wish for one fee. The more classes attended, the faster the results of training will be seen. We welcome both experienced practitioners and beginners in all of our classes. For beginners, we have loan Gi uniforms available for the first few sessions.
We also offer open mat sessions, where students are invited to spar, learn, and collaborate with one another. These sessions provide an opportunity for students to further develop their skills in a more relaxed and informal setting.
