Welcome to East West Yoga, a premier yoga studio located in Exmouth, New Zealand. Run by experienced Iyengar Yoga teachers, Gerry Chambers and Lynda Purvis, East West Yoga is dedicated to providing high-quality yoga instruction in the tradition of BKS Iyengar.
BKS Iyengar is widely regarded as one of the world's most renowned teachers of yoga. His teachings, as outlined in his book “Light on Yoga” and other texts, have had a profound impact on the practise, science, and philosophy of yoga. At East West Yoga, we carry forward his legacy by following his time-tested methods and principles.
Gerry Chambers, based in Exeter in Devon, and Lynda Purvis, currently residing in Aotearoa/New Zealand, bring their wealth of knowledge and expertise to every class. Both Gerry and Lynda are certified teacher members of IYUK, the governing body for Iyengar Yoga in the UK, and are experienced at the Senior level.
What sets East West Yoga apart is our commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for practitioners of all levels. We believe that yoga is for everyone, and it is our mission to make the practise accessible to all individuals, regardless of age, body type, or level of experience. In our classes, we emphasise proper alignment, breath control, and mindful movement, allowing participants to develop strength, flexibility, and inner awareness.
On our website, you can find more information about Gerry and Lynda, as well as our current teaching schedule in both the UK and NZ. ” In your body is the mountain, Meru, surrounded by the seven continents; there are streams too, lakes, mountains, plains and there are the two cosmic powers, the one that destroys and the one that creates, and all the elements: ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Yes, all these things are within your body; they exist in three worlds. Only the one who knows this can become a true yogi.
