Eltham & Environs Walking Group

The Eltham and Environs Walking Group (EEWG) is a vibrant sports club based in Melbourne. Founded in 2000, the group originated from the Eltham Living and Learning Centre and has since grown to have a membership of approximately 90 individuals, ranging in age from 50 to 82 years. In 2002, the group became incorporated and affiliated with Bushwalking Victoria, solidifying its commitment to promoting and participating in walking activities.

EEWG offers a diverse range of walking experiences to cater to the varied interests and abilities of its members. The club organises regular weekday walks, typically scheduled for around 2 hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Some members choose to participate once or twice a week, while the dedicated enthusiasts join all three walks. For those seeking alternative options, the club also provides alternative routes for some of the more challenging walks, which are clearly indicated on the walks schedule.

Most walks commence in Eltham or within a 30-minute drive from the area, ensuring accessibility for members. The walks encompass a wide variety of terrains, including rail, river, and creek-side trails, as well as national parks, nature reserves, suburban streets, and country lanes. With a list of over 150 walks to decide from, participants have the opportunity to explore the breathtaking beauty of the Green Wedge and its surrounding localities, as well as venture further into outlying areas.

In addition to the regular weekday walks, EEWG organises monthly weekend day walks, regional extended trips, and occasional interstate and overseas walking tours, allowing members to further immerse themselves in thrilling walking adventures.

An important aspect of the club's ethos is the camaraderie and social aspect of walking. At the conclusion of each walk, participants often gather for refreshments, providing an opportunity for members to connect, share stories, and build lasting friendships.
