Fairlight Bowls Club

Fairlight Bowls Club is a charming and welcoming bowling club situated approximately two miles east of Hastings, East Sussex in the picturesque village of Fairlight. The club is nestled at the bottom of the scenic Firehills, offering stunning views of Rye Bay to Dover. With its idyllic location, it is undoubtedly one of the finest bowling aspects in Sussex.

The club has a diverse membership, comprising around sixty playing members and forty social members. They wholeheartedly embrace new members, whether they are experienced bowlers or newcomers to the game. Qualified coaches are available to provide guidance, and experienced members are always ready to lend a helping hand.

The fixture list at Fairlight Bowls Club is robust, featuring over forty friendly games and twenty league matches. These matches are played on a reciprocal basis, where half of each are played at home or away. Club competitions are integral to their programme, with individuals vying for final positions towards the end of the season.

Beyond the sport itself, Fairlight Bowls Club offers a vibrant social programme throughout the season. Members can participate in “fun” bowling events, enjoy barbecues, indulge in delightful cream teas, and even partake in exciting trips to Hove Greyhound Racing. Additionally, the club holds coffee mornings in the Village Hall as a way to foster a sense of community.

The highlight of summer at Fairlight Bowls Club is the Open Tournament held in July. This tournament sees up to 96 players divided into 24 teams, competing against each other. The proceeds from the tournament are donated to a designated charity. In the past, supported charities have included “Help for Heroes”, Prostate Research, Cancer Research, Myeloma UK, and St.

Michaels Hospice, among others.

Facilities at Fairlight Bowls Club include a well-fitted kitchen and ample space for hosting social events and match teas. The club also provides a designated enclosed viewing area and visitors' changing rooms to ensure a comfortable experience for all.

In addition to the traditional bowls activities, the club hosts various social events throughout the year. One such event is Terry's Quiz Night, where members can test their knowledge and enjoy light bar snacks. The event takes place in the clubhouse and offers a relaxed evening of entertainment.

Fairlight Bowls Club also keeps its members informed about upcoming events through their “What's On” section. This section features activities such as Whist Nights and the Annual General Meeting, providing members with an opportunity to socialise and discuss club matters.
