Guided than a regular class. This is a great opportunity to refine your skills and receive personalised feedback from experienced dancers.
Throughout the classes, participants will have the chance to meet and interact with fellow dancers, fostering social connexions and a sense of community. Fevah Modern Jive welcomes dancers of all levels, from those with two left feet to experienced dancers looking to improve their skills. No partner is needed, as individuals can come on their own or with friends.
Fevah Modern Jive offers classes at various locations across Christchurch throughout the week. On Monday evenings, classes are held at Papanui High School on Langdons Road. On Tuesdays, classes take place at Lincoln High School on Lindum Place off North Belt. Avonhead School on Avonhead Road hosts classes on Wednesdays, while the C3 Centre on Hills Road in Shirley is the venue for Thursday classes.
Starting from January 26, 2024, classes on Fridays will be held at the Canterbury Caledonian Society on Michelle Road in Wigram.
Each class night has its unique atmosphere, offering dancers the opportunity to experience different vibes. Participants are encouraged to try out all the class nights to find the one that suits them best.
The pricing for the classes is $16 for the evening, with a discounted rate of $12 available for full-time students, Community Service cardholders, and SuperGold cardholders. The dance school also offers savings and bonus classes through credits and rewards.
For beginners, Fevah Modern Jive offers a New Beginners Pass that allows unlimited classes for five weeks. This gives beginners the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the dance style and quickly build their skills and confidence.
At each class night, attendees can expect a range of activities and classes. The evening typically starts with a beginner class, where participants will learn the basic hand hold and connexion, as well as three moves from the core beginners' list. Within just 40 minutes, beginner dancers will be able to start dancing and connect with others.
The class nights also include opportunities for consolidation and review, where attendees can practise and receive one-on-one assistance from taxi dancers. Additionally, intermediate classes are available on all nights except Mondays, teaching more challenging moves and techniques. For dancers who have attended more than 10 classes, there is a Variations Class on Mondays that focuses on developing lead or follow roles and includes elements of styling and musicality. Thursdays also offer a Coaching Session for experienced dancers who want personalised feedback to improve their skills.
Fevah Modern Jive aims to provide a fun and inclusive environment where anyone can enjoy dancing and experience the physical and mental benefits it brings. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced dancer, Fevah Modern Jive is the place to be to discover the joy of dancing in Christchurch.
