Field Aikido is a martial arts and self-defence school located in Kallista, Australia. With a strong focus on Iwama Ryu Aikido, Field Aikido is dedicated to providing a complete Aikido environment for its students. The school is named after its founder, Michael Field, and is committed to preserving the teachings of the late Morihei Ueshiba OSensei, the founder of Aikido.
At Field Aikido, the mission is to create an inclusive and supportive community where students can develop their physical and mental abilities through the practise of Iwama Ryu Aikido. The school's primary objective is to provide positive stress and challenge to students and teachers, enabling them to reach their full potential. Through this practise, students will develop the necessary life skills and enhance their personal growth.
The Field Aikido slogan, Everyday, arm yourself with life skills, act with integrity, then calmly trust in the result, captures the essence of the school's philosophy. It emphasises the importance of developing life skills, maintaining integrity, and having trust in oneself and the techniques of Aikido.
Field Aikido adheres to the Riai concept, which integrates Bujitsu (techniques), Budo (code of conduct), and Bushin (heart and mind) to form a comprehensive martial arts system. Students are expected to embrace and practise all three aspects of Riai in an authentic Aikido school, just as they were passed down by Morihei Ueshiba OSensei.
Field Aikido has established a set of commitments that students are required to honour. These commitments include being open to learning and improving in all aspects of the Riai, practising safely and respectfully, maintaining personal hygiene, attending a minimum of two classes weekly, participating in black belt gradings, seminars, and camps, and upholding the reputation of Field Aikido in both words and actions.
The school offers classes at various locations in the Kallista area. The main dojo is located at St Brigid's Roman Catholic Church on Nicholson Street, Fitzroy North. Classes are held multiple times throughout the week, providing students with the flexibility to find a schedule that suits their needs. In addition to open-handed classes, the school also offers special weapons training classes.
Field Aikido strives to create a positive and inclusive learning environment, where students of all ages and skill levels can develop their martial arts and self-defence skills. With experienced instructors and a commitment to preserving the teachings of Morihei Ueshiba OSensei, Field Aikido is the ideal place to embark on your martial arts journey.
