The studios are designed with safety and comfort in mind, featuring proper flooring, mirrors, and ballet barres. The environment is welcoming and conducive to learning, providing a positive space for students to thrive in their dance and theatre education.

MEET THE TEAM At First Stage, we have a team of dedicated and highly experienced dance and theatre professionals who are passionate about nurturing young talents and providing quality training. Our team includes qualified teachers who have extensive industry experience and are committed to helping students achieve their full potential. They are knowledgeable, supportive, and create a positive learning environment for all students. ABOUT US First Stage Dance and Theatre Academy was established in 1996 by Principal Loraine Campbell.

Since then, it has grown into one of Derby's most successful dance and theatre schools. We take pride in offering a wide range of dance and fitness classes for students of all ages and abilities. From ballet and tap to modern, musical theatre, jazz, commercial, contemporary, pre-school dance, stretch and strength, and acrobatics, we have something for everyone. CLASSES Our dance and fitness classes are designed to cater to the diverse interests of our students.

Whether they aspire to become professional dancers, performers, or simply want to enjoy dancing as a hobby, we offer classes to suit their needs. Students can start from beginners' level and progress to advanced classes as they develop their skills and techniques. We follow the syllabi of prestigious dance organisations such as the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA). EXAMS First Stage prepares students for examinations with the ISTD and LAMDA, which are highly recognised and respected accreditation bodies in the dance and theatre industry.

These examinations provide students with a sense of achievement and help them track their progress as they move through different levels. First Stage is proud of its examination record and showcases the results on the noticeboard, demonstrating the high standards of education and training we provide. FESTIVALS First Stage actively participates in regional dance festivals across the Midlands, showcasing the talents of our students and competing with other schools. We have an impressive trophy cabinet displayed in our reception area, demonstrating the achievements of our pupils in tap, modern, and ballet.

Our students have won prestigious titles such as East and West Midlands Dance Champions, further establishing First Stage as a leading dance and theatre school in the region. SHOWS We believe that performing in front of an audience is an essential part of a dancer's development, and we provide our students with ample opportunities to showcase their skills in our own shows. These shows are held at prominent venues such as The Assembly Rooms in Derby and Derby Theatre, allowing students to experience performing on professional stages. Our shows are a highlight of the year for students and their families, creating memories that last a lifetime.

EXPERIENCE First Stage is proud to have students who have successfully auditioned and appeared in professional and amateur theatre productions. Our students have had the privilege of performing with renowned organisations such as the National Youth Ballet of Great Britain, English Youth Ballet, and Tap Attack. They have also been involved in professional pantomimes at theatres in Derby and Nottingham, as well as various amateur dramatic societies across the Midlands. Many of our students have gone on to secure places at prestigious performing arts schools, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to pursue careers in dance and theatre.
