The Monbulk Senior Football Netball Club, a soccer club based in Monbulk, recently hosted a crucial soccer event against Olinda-Ferny Creek. The senior football team, determined to keep their finals hopes alive, battled it out against Olinda in what turned out to be a thrilling match.
Despite their historically good record against Olinda, the senior football team had struggled to secure a win against them in recent years. In the second half, Monbulk applied constant pressure and effectively broke down Olinda's game plan. The Hawks took control of the match and entered the final quarter with a comfortable four-goal lead. The reserves team, also facing Olinda, had a challenging game. Despite their best efforts, Monbulk allowed Olinda to dictate the game and suffered an 18-point loss. This defeat now puts the reserves team in a difficult position to secure a finals spot as they have slipped to sixth place.
In the under 19s match, Monbulk faced an early challenge from Mt. Evelyn but showed great resilience. Their skills, teamwork, composure, and determination allowed them to take control of the rest of the match. With constant forward entries, the under 19s team secured a convincing win, positioning them well within the top five.
Not only did the soccer teams compete, but the Monbulk netball teams also took on Olinda-Ferny Creek. The A grade match, which was the broadcast match of the day, saw Monbulk hoping to replicate their previous upset win against Olinda. Unfortunately, Olinda's strong defence and effective ball movement led to a comfortable victory for them. The B grade match also saw Olinda dominating, securing a 24-goal victory. As for the C grade match, the final result is currently unknown.
