Welcome to Foxley Bowling Club, a small but vibrant lawn bowls club located in the East End of Glasgow. With a rich history spanning several decades, Foxley has become a well-respected and successful club in the world of lawn bowls.
In the 1950s, Foxley achieved its first Glasgow Bowling Association title when A. Hayes emerged as the GBA Pairs champion. This set the stage for further success, with J. Hayes going on to win the Foxley Championship an impressive six times.
As the years went by, the club's membership grew, and its bowlers began to make their mark at County, National, and even International events.
The 1960s saw J. Hayes and Mrs. R. Buonaccorsi represent Scotland at the International level, showcasing the club's talent on a broader stage.
Additionally, the Foxley Rink of A. McLaughlin won the prestigious GBA Fours title, further cementing the club's reputation as a force to be reckoned with.
The 1970s marked a truly remarkable period for Foxley Bowling Club. From a club that had never produced a Scottish Bowling Association Champion, it transformed into one that boasted three Champion teams in just a decade. The Triple team of J. Hayes, J.
Clelland, and J. Robertson secured the club's first Scottish Championship in 1974. This incredible feat was repeated in 1978 by the Triple of W. Campbell, R.
Louden, and T. Dudgeon. Notably, both winning Triples teams consisted of different players, further highlighting the depth of talent within the club. The 1970s also saw J.
Watson become an Internationalist, an honour he held for many years.
Foxley continued its winning streak into the 1980s, extending its success onto the global stage. The Triple team of W. Goold, T. Stewart, and J.
Robertson won the GBA Triples in 1981, while J. Watson became the World Indoor Singles Champion in 1982 and a Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist in the Pairs. In 1984, the club's winning habit in Triples competitions persisted, with the team of A. Manson, E.
Robertson, and W. Campbell becoming GBA Champions.
Moving into the 21st century, Foxley Bowling Club remains a hub of activity for lawn bowls enthusiasts in Glasgow. As of 2022, the club is proud to offer new members a significant reduction in membership fees, with new bowlers paying just 30 for the year and those with prior experience paying only 60. This offer aims to introduce more individuals to the joy and camaraderie of Scotland's most successful Commonwealth Games sport.
